The Source is Opting Out of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Here's Why.
We adore the holidays and we love gift-giving, but we’re not big fans of Black Friday or Cyber Monday. These are days on which people are encouraged to buy as many things as possible, even things they don’t need, simply because they are marked down. This frenzy of purchasing isn’t good for anyone — not the shoppers who are trampled trying to get inside the stores, not the warehouse workers who have to work themselves to the bone to fulfill orders, and not the generations of people who will have to deal with the environmental effects of all the extra waste and emissions that these “shopping holidays” generate.
Also, to be perfectly honest, we can’t afford to offer the kinds of special deals that massive corporations like Amazon and Wal-Mart do. The products we sell are priced in a way that allows everyone involved in making and selling them to be paid a living wage, and the materials we use are high-quality and chosen to last. We want to earn your business by making great clothes and sticking to our values, not by slashing our prices.
We’ll be using the Thanksgiving weekend to take a break and spend time with our friends and families, so you won’t see much from us on social media. We really love the #optoutside movement, and we encourage you connect with nature and loved ones this weekend by taking part in that, if you're so inclined. If you do decide to shop this weekend, we encourage you to take part in #SmallBusinessSaturday and spend your money with local businesses and small makers.
Thank you for your support, and enjoy your holidays!
